Rize-Artvin Airport, which is the second airport of the country to be built on the sea after Ordu-Giresun Airport, and the fifth airport of the world, was opened on 14 May 2022.
The airport, which has an annual passenger capacity of 3 million, according to the President's Decision published in the Official Gazette; It has been determined as a permanent air border gate open to international entrances and exits.
The terminal building of the airport, built by the Cengiz İnşaat-Aga Energy partnership, which won the tender with a bid of 1,078 billion liras, has an area of 32 thousand square meters and the other closed areas of 15 thousand square meters. There is also a parking lot for 448 vehicles at the airport.
The opening of the airport, which was built in the form of tea leaves as the entrance ornament of the airport with its architecture inspired by the Rize culture, and the 36-meter-high air traffic control tower in the form of a tea glass; It was held with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
